Welcome to the website of the This site is home for information about the Jacha Machaca Archaeological Project, which has been conducting archaeological research in the southern Lake Titicaca Basin of the Bolivia Andes since 2001. The project is directed by John W. Janusek, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Vanderbilt University, and has been co-directed by Ing. Victor Plaza (2005-7) and Lic. Carlos Lemuz (2008) of the Sociedad de Arqueologia de La Paz, Bolivia. The project is interdisciplinary in scope and has involved researchers and students of diverse nationalities and research interests. We have conducted the bulk of our research in the Aymara-speaking communities of Qhunqhu Liquiliqui and Iruhuito.
